Significant funding confirmed for North West ETBs



The Minister for Further and Higher Education has confirmed over €360,000 in further education grants for the Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Boards.

The allocation, is part of the Further Education and Training (FET) Strategic Infrastructure Upgrade Fund.

€207,000 will be allocated to Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB will allow it to carry out refurbishment and re-configuration works at its existing centre which is situated on Quay Street in Sligo Town.

€153,000 will be allocated to the Stranorlar Further Education and Training Centre to provide additional accommodation to enable the consolidation of the provision of services for the Post Leaving Certificate programme in the area.

Speaking to Ocean FM’s Dónal Ryan, Minister Harris outlined the importance of upgrading the respective facilities.

During his trip to Sligo, Minister Harris vented his frustration with accommodation that was previously used to house students now being used to provide accommodation for refugees.

Minister Harris says third level students should no longer be left entirely at the mercy of private landlords and that public student accommodation needs to be provided.
