RNLI issue lifejacket reminder



The RNLI have issued a reminder to the public to ensure their lifejacket is safe for the season ahead.

 

The institution is urging all those who are going out on a boat to wear a lifejacket and make sure that it is fit for purpose.

 

The RNLI is also reminding the public of the benefits of wearing a lifejacket. These include:

 

It buys precious time until help arrives.

 

If correctly fitted and maintained, it will keep you to float.

 

It dramatically increases chances of survival- you’re four times more likely to survive in the sea. be safe in the water this weekend.

 

429 lifejackets on the island of Ireland were inspected by the RNLI’s water safety team in 2023.

 

Of these, faults were found in 289 lifejackets.

 

Faults recorded include automatic firing head out of date, corroded gas cylinders, and bladder integrity negatively compromised.
