Two stranded walkers rescued from Diarmuid and Gráinne’s Cave

Two stranded walkers were rescued from Diarmuid and Gráinne’s Cave on Friday.

Personnel from the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team were called to the the Glenniff Valley in County Sligo to treat the two cragfast walkers.

It’s understood both walkers were holidaying the area and were ascending to the cave when they became cragfast.

Both walkers, cold and nervous due to the exposed and steepness of the location were initially assessed by a medics as hypothermia was a concern.

Both walkers felt they could not descend the cave safely, and a rope system was deployed to assist the walkers back down the mountain.

The two walkers were shaken by the experience but were uninjured.

Members of An Garda Siochána were also involved in the rescue operation.
