Widespread pyrite problem in Sligo



It’s now feared that up to 170 houses in Sligo could be impacted by Pyrite.

 

 

The revelation comes as those impacted by Mica in Donegal which also causes cracking and crumbling in concrete blocks are to travel to Leinster House in the coming weeks to reiterate their calls for a 100% redress scheme.

 

Orlagh Cawley is chartered building engineer, She has been commissioned by the local authority in Sligo to establish the full extent of the problem within the County.

 

She says that many who own houses with the condition are embarrassed to highlight the issue and as a result the number of houses impacted is likely to increase.

 

Orlagh Cawley added that impacted properties are spread right throughout Sligo and include one off housing, local authority housing, commercial buildings and apartments.
