Sod turned on WWI Memorial Garden

A sod turning ceremony has taken place today in Cleveragh, Sligo for the development of a World War One Memorial Garden.

Armistice Day was chosen as the day for the event, as Sligo remembers the 604 local soldiers who lost their lives in the war.

The Lest Sligo Forgets partnership, with the assistance of Sligo County Council, hope to have the Memorial Garden in place by next year.

The Chairman of the partnership, Tommy Higgins, said today’s ceremony was very poignant.
