Community involvement essential if fleadh is to return to Sligo



The community will have to get behind any renewed effort to attract the Fleadh back to Sligo.

Former Chairman of the Fleadh Committee, Bartley Gavin says while people want it to return, it requires alot of hard work and for the whole community to come on board.

Sligo successfully held the world’s premier traditional music festival in 2014 and 2015 and for the next two years it moves to Ennis.

This weekend the Cathaoirleach of Sligo Rosaleen O’Grady is hosting a reception to honour the work of the Fleadh Executive committee.

Bartley Gavin says with the process now so competitive, a really strong campaign is needed to have a chance of succeeding and beating bigger towns and cities like Derry, Cork and Tullamore.

However he says the local community has to get it off the ground:
