Donegal Gaelscoil’s ‘urgent need’ for accommodation



A Donegal TD says the Department of Education has to re-examine the urgent need for accommodation at the Gaelscoil in Donegal Town.

Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maistri in Brookfield got the go ahead to be added to the department’s capital building list last November but the list will not ensure a new building until at least 2019 or 2020.

However, unlike some of the other schools on the list, it already has a site and planning permission.

The 100 pupils at the school have been in prefabs for over 15 years and they are in a poor state of repair and expensive to heat.

Fianna Fail TD Pat the Cope Gallagher raised the issue with the Minister for Education in recent days and says the students and teachers simply should not be expected to wait that long for a new school:
