Gardai in Donegal step plans for Coastal Watch Programme

Gardai in Donegal are stepping up their efforts towards setting up an active Coastal Watch Programme along the local coastline.

Coastal Watch is a multi-agency initiative aimed at the prevention and detection of illegal drug importation, promoting vigilance from coastal communities and the wide range of organisations and agencies that operate at sea and along our Coast and harbours.

It follows the discovery of a number of cocaine packages off the Donegal shoreline in July of last year.

A joint agency meeting was held in Killybegs yesterday between An Garda Síochána and Killybegs Coast Guard to discuss the development of the initiative.
