Four athletes from Sligo and Donegal have been selected for the Ireland team for this month’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
North Sligo Athletic Club’s Chris O’Donnell (Mixed 4 x 400m), Tir Chonaill AC’s Kelly McGrory (4x400m), Mark English (800m) and Brendan Boyce (35km walk) have all been included in a 23-strong squad, the largest ever selected for a World Championships.
O’Donnell will head a mixed 4x400m relay squad which has a blend of youth and experience as they go in search of back-to-back world finals.
The Grange athlete may also yet receive a quota spot in the individual 400m – he won his fifth national senior title in the discipline in Santry last weekend.
The World Athletics Champions take place at the new National Stadium in Budapest from August 19th to 27th.
Live Irish terrestrial television coverage of the championships returns to Virgin Media will broadcast the nine-days of competition.
