Leitrim GAA has confirmed that all matches in the knockout stages of the county’s adult club championships will be played behind closed doors..
The decision to prohibit spectators from matches from the quarter-finals onwards was conveyed in a lengthy statement early on Friday morning.
Current government restrictions mean crowd limits remain at a maximum of 200 people at outdoor events.
Leitrim GAA says that, based on the rationale that interest levels in the latter stages of the senior, intermediate and junior football championships will rise significant, the county board will simply be unable to cater for the demand for tickets.
Instead, Leitrim GAA will not allow any spectators at all into games, beycond playing personnel, management and stewards. They are now seeking to enhance the county’s live streaming coverage of championship games.
The final round of group games this weekend (live coverage on Ocean FM from 7pm) WILL allow a limit number of spectators in, as in recent weeks. But, once the quarter-final line-ups are finalised, all remaining matches will move behind closed doors.
