The number of primary school pupils taught through Irish is increasing across the north west region.
New figures published by the Department of Education show almost one in 12 schoolchildren at primary level are receiving their education through Irish.
Donegal has one of the highest rates in the country of Irish being the primary language of education were almost 10% of pupils learn though the language.
Principal of Gaelscoil Chnoc na Re in Sligo town, Mícheál O’Broin says it is positive to see such an increase in figures.
Mr O’ Brion says they are awaiting for a new school building and once that is complete they will be able to cater for a greater number of pupils.
