Sligo County Council unanimously support motion to reopen Western Rail Corridor

Sligo County Council have unanimously supported a motion to reopen the Western Rail Corridor.

The motion was proposed by Mayor of Sligo and Independent Councillor, Declan Bree, who believes the rail corridor is a crucial piece of infrastructure for the region.

Although the All Island Strategic Rail Review is yet to be published, it’s widely expected that there will be no new lines included for Sligo.

However, with the reopening of a freight line from Athenry to Claremorris imminent, Councillor Bree feels that the perserverance shown by other local authorities highlights that it may be possible for Sligo to be included in future development.
