Strong opposition to Art Deco library proposals

Proposals to turn the Art Deco building in Ballymote into a library have been met with stern opposition.

An announcement was made this week by the Department of Rural and Community Development that €1.3m would be allocated to develop the library in the current cultural facility.

The announcement appears to have come as a complete surprise, with many people in Ballymote in favour of leaving the theatre and other facilities in the Art Deco building as they currently are.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, former Fine Gael TD, John Perry, says nobody was consulted on the matter before the funding was announced.
