Sligo University Hospital among most overcrowded in March

Sligo University Hospital was among the most overcrowded facilities in Ireland in March.

In a statement today, the INMO says that a worrying trend of overcrowding across the western seaboard and in the Midwest is continuing.

Figures released today by the INMO show that a total of 525 people waited for a bed at Sligo over the course of the month.

It makes it the fifth most overcrowded hospital in Ireland for March but it also reflects a decrease compared to the 648 people who waiting in March of 2023.

In Letterkenny, 412 people waited for a bed in March of this year, again reflecting a decrease of last year’s figure of 534.

The INMO say that members who are rostered to work this bank holiday weekend are more and more concerned about the ever-increasing risks associated with the provision of services in constantly overcrowded and a progressively under-staffed service.
