Record levels of homelessness in North West



The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage have published their monthly homeless report for March.

 

13,866 people were registered as homeless in Ireland in March – a new record, 172 of which were in the North West.

13,866 people were registered as homeless in Ireland in March – which is a new record, and 172 of which were in the North West.

 

The new figures released today show that of the 172 people in emergency accommodation in the North West, more than double are male at 118, with the remaining 54 female.

 

Out of those 172, 86 are aged between 25-44, 59 are between 45-64, 23 are from 18-24, and 4 are over 65.

 

128 people are Irish citizens, 36 are from the European Economic Area and the UK, and a further 8 are non-European.

 

A further breakdown shows there are 88 adults accessing emergency accommodation in Sligo, 70 in Donegal, and 14 in Leitrim.

 

Finally, there are a reported 23 families availing of emergency accommodation in the North West.
