Gardai plead with motorists not to use back roads in Rathcormac area

Gardai are pleading with all road users to bear with the roadworks in the wider Rathcormac area and to stay on the main road.

A substantial amount of motorists opted to travel on minor routes in the area yesterday due to the huge delays.

Gardai have confirmed that there were a number of crashes on the back roads as a result – they say that these are routes are totally unsuitable to cope with large volumes of traffic.

Gardai also say that you won’t save time by not using the main road.

Meanwhile, a two way traffic system in Rathcormac is coming into effect at 2pm today and will be in place until early Tuesday morning.

Sligo County Council is hoping to have all major works completed by Friday of next week.
