Rathcormac roadworks causing chaos

Ongoing roadworks in the Rathcormac area are said to be causing absolute chaos.

The works, which began earlier this week, are set to finish on Friday week.

Sligo County Council previously warned that it would result in significant delays to traffic.

Huge tailbacks have been reported since the works began, particularly during peak times.

Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy is urging motorists to have patience:

The statement from Sligo County Council:

The pavement strengthening and resurfacing works within the southern side of Rathcormack Village on the N15 National Primary Road are scheduled from Monday 25 March to Wednesday 10 April 2024. Work will necessitate temporary traffic management measures, including the use of traffic light single lane shuttle systems and stop/go operations, to ensure the safe passage of road users through the works zone. Given the nature of the pavement intervention required and the existing heavy traffic volumes at this location, significant delays to traffic are anticipated during the course of the works. Additionally, the use of traffic lights will be required outside of normal working hours for certain phases of the works.  It should also be noted that the parking area/layby along the southbound lane of the N15 will be closed off to parking during the works.
