Latest reports confirms that garda numbers in the north west has decreased over the past decade



There has been a reduction in the number of serving Gardai in the OceanFM franchise over the past year and over the past decade.

 

Between 2014 and the 2023 the numbers reduced by 12 while the figure has dropped by 8 over the past year alone.

 

 

The latest figures published in the Irish Independent gives a breakdown of figures per station in 2014 and 2023.  It measures any increase or decrease in garda numbers for this period of time and in addition monitors any changes in the number of serving officers at the various stations over the past 12 months.

 

Immediately the decrease in the number of serving members at the Garda station in Sligo stands out in the report.   Over the past decade the figure has reduced from 138 to 116, a reduction of 22 and there are now 4 less Gardai based at the station compared to a year ago.

 

The decrease in figures is taking place while there are continued calls for a new station to be built at Caltragh.

From 2014 to 2023 Ballymote Garda station has recorded an increase of 11, moving from 26 to 37 however the figures dropped by 3 over the past twelve months.

 

In Donegal the number of officers based in Ballyshannon has increased from 46 to 58 between 2014 and 2023. The number assigned to the station dropped by 1 over the last 12 months.

 

The numbers allocated to the stations in Bundoran, Donegal town and Glenties have all reduced over the last 10 Years.

 

The status quo has been very much maintained in Leitrim with no change in numbers being reported in Kinlough and Manorhamilton.  Currently there are 23 Gardai in Manorhamilton and 5 in Kinlough.

 

However there are 2 fewer officers based in Drumshanbo  compared to a decade ago.
