Mixed reports for Sligo following latest HIQA inspections

HIQA’s latest reports on 30 residential and care units include four in County Sligo.

The inspections were carried out in September and October 2023.

Pinegrove, Rosenheim, Harmony and Lakelodge Community Group Home were the four homes examined by HIQA in the latest round of inspections.

Of those four, Rosenheim and Harmony were both found to be substantially compliant with all regulations.

Both centres were praised for having made significant improvements from previous inspections to make sure all regulations were adhered to.

Breaches in regulations were found in both of the other centres inspected. Pinegrove was found to be non-compliant with four regulations, those being personal possessions, general welfare and development, premises and resident’s rights.

The report found that some of the residents own possessions were compromised, there was little opportunity for them to engage with day services on site, and that residents rights were negatively affected by the poor layout and design of the centre.

The only regulation Lakelodge Community Group Home were found to be in breach of was that of fire precautions. Following a test of the fire alarm, it was discovered that two fire doors were not fully closing upon alarm activation.

Both centres will now have to provide plans to highlight how they will comply with the regulations going forward.
