Sligo listed as third cleanest town in Ireland

Sligo has been recognised as one of the cleanest towns in Ireland.

It comes after the latest report from Irish Buisnesses Against Litter (IBAL) listed Sligo as the third cleanest town, just after Maynooth and Mallow.

Sligo was one of 11 towns to be listed by IBAL as being “cleaner than European norms”.

While litter levels rose slightly nationwide, over 60% of towns surveyed were deemed clean in 2023, with the much-improved efforts in Sligo seeing the town jump from 17th to 3rd in the listings

According to the report, there were several instances of good work to be seen, particularly at Rockwood Parade, Sligo Sports Complex and O’Connell Street, while Sligo Retail Park was noted as “spotless”.

The one blot on the landscape was the heavily littered Mall Car Park, as it presented poorly with litter lining the perimeter.

Sligo’s third-place finish is the town’s highest ever position in the IBAL rankings.
