Richard Howley wins second consecutive Grand Prix title

Enniscrone showjumper Richard Howley won a second consecutive Grand Prix title in a week on Sunday, when he added the Helsinnki Grand Prix to his success in Oslo seven days previously.

Howley, who’s 31, was riding his mount Consulent de Prelet Z and won an eight-horse jump-off with the fastest time of 34.18 seconds to claim Longines FEI Jumping World Cup event in Helsinki.

Sunday’s win earned Howley a cash prize of €57,000 – and came just a week after he won his first ever Grand Prix with same gelding in Norway.

The result leaves Howley with a commanding lead at the top of the World Cup league table on 40 points – 19 points ahead of current World number 1, Sweden’s Henrik Von Eckermann, heading into the third leg of the series in a fortnight’s time in Lyon.
