Rural Link Conference to examine unique challenges facing rural families

The decline in income of rural families and the challenges they currently face in meeting energy, food and transport costs and what supports are needed to ensure people have an adequate income is expected to dominate the Irish Rural Link Annual Conference and AGM in Moate today.

The conference will explore low-income households in rural areas have always had deeper income inadequacy than a similar household living in an urban area.

The conference will hear how rural families are incurring extra costs for transport, energy and food.

The conference is also expected to discuss investment in public transport and the retrofitting programme to make homes more energy efficient and reduce energy and domestic fuel costs for households
