Sligo Bay RNLI issue water safety appeal for long weekend

The Sligo Bay RNLI have issued a water safety appeal for the May bank holiday weekend, in conjunction with Water Safety Ireland and the Coast Guard.

The organisations are urging people to ensure that boats and other watercraft, including kayaks and canoes, are checked and in good working order following the winter period. Engines should be serviced and all equipment, particularly lifejackets, should be in good condition.

They also said to ensure that you tell someone where you are going and when you plan to be back. And if you plan on swimming, water temperatures are still cold at this time of the year, so consider wearing a wetsuit to stay warm.
