Donegal Drugs find may have provided important intelligence about drug smuggling operations at sea.

it’s being reported that Gardai are investigating potential links between two bales of cocaine that washed ashore in Donegal in July and the bales of cocaine recovered from the MV Matthew off the coast of Cork.

Earlier this year two plastic-wrapped bales, each reported to contain 60 kilos of cocaine, washed on to beaches at Fanad and Dunfanaghy.

The Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris indicated that bales of cocaine yielded important intelligence about drug-smuggling operations at sea.

Meanwhile a man is due in court today, charged after a 157 million euro drugs seizure off the County Cork coast.

The discovery was made in a joint taskforce operation at sea on the MV Matthew ship on Tuesday.

He will appear before a sitting of Wexford District Court at half ten this morning.

Four other people arrested remain in Garda custody.
