Ex-Couple jailed over the killing of Pat Ward



A man and a woman have been jailed for their roles in the death of a Sligo father-of-four in Co Tyrone more than four years ago.

 

Niall Cox who also comes from Sligo and Karen Marie McDonald were sentenced yesterday at Dungannon Crown Court.

 

Mr Cox was previously sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Pat Ward at McCrea Park, Clogher in February 2019.

 

He will now serve a minimum of 20 years in prison before being considered eligible for parole.

 

His former Karen McDonald, was sentenced to ten years for manslaughter.

 

Half of this sentence will be served on licence.

 

Pat Ward originally from Sligo was found dead in an alleyway in Clogher, Co Tyrone on 9 February 2019.

 

During yesterday’s sentencing hearing, the court heard that Mr Ward had been savagely attacked in the home of Karen McDonald and her then-partner Niall Cox.

 

Following the attack hew was dragged to and left in an alleyway between houses.
