Garda investigation launched into Sean Quinn comments

It’s being reported that Gardaí have launched a criminal investigation regarding comments made by Seán Quinn in which he stated  that he would have preferred seeing two other directors at his former companies being “beaten up” instead of Kevin Lunney.

In a radio interview last week, Mr Quinn claimed Mr Lunney “wasn’t to blame” for what happened at the former Quinn Group and said he should not have been kidnapped and tortured.

He went on to add that he would have rather seen company directors the former Leitrim Councillor “John McCartin and Liam McCaffrey beaten up”.

The Irish Independent are reporting that the two directors at the former QIH made statements of complaint to detectives, outlining their concerns about what was said.

It’s understood that gardaí in the Cavan/Monaghan division have launched an official inquiry after requesting a meeting yesterday with Mr McCartin and Mr McCaffrey.
