The funeral of a Leitrim man who died following an assault in Westport has taken place today.
Peter McDermott was laid to rest this afternoon in Murrisk Cemetery, in Co. Mayo.
Mr McDermott passed away at Mayo University Hospital on Sunday from injuries received in a street incident which gardai are investigating.
A man in his 20’s was released after questioning by gardai and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A native of Manorhamilton, Mr McDermott spent time in both London and New York, before returning to Ireland.
Throughout the ceremony, mourners heard that Mr McDermott was a caring father and husband, and had a passion for farmwork.
