Sligo AC’s Finley Daly wins national steeplechase title



Sligo Athletic Club’s Finley Daly produced an impressive run in Santry on Sunday to win the men’s 3000 metres steeplechase title at the National Senior Track & Field Championships.

Finley led the race from start to finish clocking a time of 8:56.66 to win gold.

Daly spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after his win on Sunday.

Daly’s Sligo AC team-mate Rianne McHugh finished 10th in her first senior 800 metres final at Santry.

Dromore West Keelan Kilrehill and John Travers were unable to finish amongst the medals in the men’s 5000m final.

Kilrehill finished seventh behind winner Brian Fay while Travers, who set the pace for much of the race, pulled up in the closing stages.

In the women’s 400m hurdles final, Tir Chonaill AC’s Kelly McGrory put up a brave defence of her national title, only to be pipped on the line by Jessica Tappin.

As for Saturday’s performances, there was a silver medal this weekend for Carrick AC’s Gerard O’Donnell in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Tir Chonaill AC’s Conal Mahon was second in the men’s Triple Jump.
