Sligo win Connacht minor shield title

An injury-time from Ben Cawley guided Sligo to a one-point victory over neighbours Leitrim in Friday evening’s Connacht minor shield final in Ballinamore, as Stephen Henry’s Sligo edged to a 1-9 to 0-11 success.

The sides were level at 0-5 each at half-time -before Matthew Walsh’s fine second-half goal on 41 minutes put Sligo two points up.

Leitrim got back on level terms in the closing stages – before Cawley’s point deep in added time edge Sligo to the win.

Sligo will now go on to compete in the new All-Ireland minor ‘B’ football championship.

For Karl Foley’s Leitrim, the season isn’t over yet.

They will now play in the new All-Ireland minor ‘C’ championship.
