Fermanagh’s Belnaleck win All-Ireland 7s



Fermanagh’s Belnaleck Art McMurroughs GAA Club won the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland sevens tournament in Dublin on Saturday with a final victory over Trillick (1-11 to 1-9).

The tournament, which traditionally takes place on the eve of the All-Ireland senior football final each year, once again attracted strong Ulster interest.

Belnaleck, who are going well in Division 1 of the Westville Hotel senior football league in the Erne County, won two of their three group games on Saturday, beating Raheny (Dublin) and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point (Sligo) before losing to Dungannon of Tyrone.

In the quarter-finals, the Erne men beat Na Fianna of Dublin by 4-9 to 3-7 before exacting retribution of Dungannon in the semi-finals with a a penalty shootout victory.

In the final, the Leckers had two points to spare over Trillick of Tyrone, winning by 1-11 to 1-9.

Donegal’s Naomh Columba also participated in the 7s this year, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to Trillick.
