HIQA find centre in Sligo in breach of standards

Abbey View Residences in Chapel Hill has been found to be non-compliant in three regulations in the Health Information and Quality Authority’s (HIQA) latest inspection reports.

The inspection took place in April, and it’s understood that efforts have since been made to address the shortcomings identified.

Abbey View Residences has been found to be not compliant in staffing, governance and management and premises.

Under staffing, the staffing allocation was found to be not sufficient to ensure that residents had free choice, adequate social engagement and safe social access.

Issues with the premises and a lack of staffing resources which impacted upon the day-to-day lives of residents were noted under governance and management.

While under premises, although many aspects of the centre promoted accessibility, bathroom facilities for three residents were unsuitable for their showering needs and alternative arrangements which were in place had the potential to impact upon these residents’ dignity.

The centre has been asked to provide compliance plans to demonstrate how it will make improvements and come into compliance with the regulations.
