Business buyers driving land prices up in the north west



It’s feared that farmers in the north west could be facing even more competition for agricultural land when it comes on the market.

 

 

A trend is emerging across the region where Increasing numbers of so called  ‘business buyers’ are outbidding farmers for land as they turn it into as a safe haven” to invest in.

 

Entrepreneurs in their 40s and early 50s from a farming background, who have sold their businesses to larger concerns and see land as a solid investment and are hovering up any farms that are presented on the market.

 

Ballymote based auctioneer Eamon Scanlon says this developing trend and the ongoing interest by forestry companies in agricultural land is driving prices up:
