Mother & daughter make history for Sligo Rugby Club

Sligo women’s rugby team 24-17 victory over NUI Galway last Sunday in the Connacht Women’s League produced two milestones for the winners.

The first is that Sligo have now earned a home league semi-final.

The second was that the team included a mother and daughter combination for the first time.

Cría Flanagan played her first game at senior level, having coming up through Sligo’s youth system, and was joined on the team by her mother Etna, who played rugby with Sligo 10 years ago, and has rejoined the club this year.

Mum Etna was noted gaelic footballer with St Nathy’s and Sligo for many years, and her playing retirement in that code saw her honoured recently at the St Nathy’s LGFA 30th anniversary gala dinner dance.
