Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry took gold in the women’s 100 metres breaststroke final at the season-opening TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville, Tennesse on Friday morning.
The event is USA Swimming’s first national meet of the year and attracts many of the country’s best swimmers.
McSharry won her heat on Thursday in a time of 1min 07.36 secs – and followed that up with an even faster swim in the final, clocking 1min 06.80 secs.
McSharry is currently in her third year as a Scholarship student at the University of Tennessee.
