Dedicated agency for housing defeats may not be ‘silver bullet’



A Sligo councillor says the establishment of a dedicated agency to deal with houses and apartments affected by defects may not necessarily be a ‘silver bullet’ to deal with 120-thousand homes built during the Celtic Tiger era that are defective.

 

The Construction Defects Alliance says a State-run body is needed to manage properties that don’t meet proper building standards they have urged the government to step in to support home owners.

 

Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Donal Gilroy however says that the
‘Home Bond Scheme’ that was previously in operation failed home owners that were found to be responsible in the events of defects being discovered in their properties

 

Cllr Gilroy says a proper building controls system need to be introduced as a matter of urgency:
