Ollie Horgan’s Finn Harps were relegated from the Premier Division of the SSE Airtricity League on Friday night following a 3-1 home defeat to UCD.
Harps had to avoid defeat to have any hope of avoiding automatic relegation going into the final weekend of the season.
Conor Tourish gave the home side the lead but goals from Mark Dignam and Tommy Lonergan (2) consigned the Donegal side to First Division football next season.
Elsewhere, Aidan Keena collected the Sligo Rovers Player of the Season award for 2022 and then scored the match-winning penalty in a 1-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic at the Showgrounds.
Crowd trouble before the start of the second half delayed the restart of the game – and there were reports of bottles being thrown by some supporters as a confrontation developed between rival fans on the Jinks Avenue side of the ground.
Dundalk’s 2-1 win over Bohemians assures them of third place in the table and European football next season.
