Warning signs upgraded at Strandhill beach & Dorrins Strand

As investigations continue into bacteria levels in the water at two locations in Sligo, Sligo County Council have upgraded warning signs.

The advice not to enter signs which were erected at Strandhill beach and Dorrins Strand have been replaced with prohibition on entering the water notices.

It follows consultation with the HSE.

Following on from high levels of bacteria in both locations, investigations and internal laboratory controls by the contract laboratory were undertaken.

To date no obvious cause of contamination has been identified.

At present, Sligo County Council continue to carry out investigations and are liaising with Irish Water in relation to all Urban Wastewater treatment infrastructure in the area, to date they have no reported incidents.

The Council is also arranging for further monitoring to be undertaken.

This advice will remain in place until samples at both locations return satisfactory results.
