Local festivals struggling with financial burdens



The Dail has heard that festivals in Sligo and Leitrim are at breaking point with the skyrocketing cost of insurance.

Some local committees are said to be struggling to get quotes and if they do receive a quote, it’s too far out of their budget.

The issue was raised by Independent TD Marian Harkin who says festivals like the Wild Rose in Manorhamilton and the Horse Fair in Mohill are facing huge stumbling blocks as a result.

 

Responding, Minister Jack Chambers says that there is continuous engagement with the insurance sector and says that progress is being made in this regard.

But Deputy Harkin says there needs to be urgently something done in the interim to help them:
