Sligo councillor calls for Dara Calleary to replace Robert Troy

A Sligo Councillor is calling for Dara Calleary to be appointed as a Junior Minister.

The government are currently selecting a successor for the Longford Westmeath TD Robert Troy who stood down this week as a Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Sligo Strandhill Councillor Tom MacSharry say Dara Calleary would be an ideal choice for the role adding that Mayo TD could also be a future leader of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.

The former minister for agriculture resigned from the position in the aftermath of the golf gate controversy back in 2020.

Speaking to Ocean FM news Cllr MacSharry says Dara Calleary is popular among Fianna Fáil  members and stressed the importance for greater representation from this region  to address the imbalance that currently exists at ministerial  level.
