Gardai in Sligo have issued an appeal over vandalism to a monument that’s over five thousand years old.
The vandals have damaged the tombs at Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery.
Gardai have described it as a despicable act on what is essentially a graveyard
They are appealing to the local community to report anyone acting suspiciously on the site at any time but particularly after hours.
Gardai say that this site must be protected as it is a significant archaeological, historical and also a tourist attraction with thousands of visitors every year
