Reports of crowd disturbances after Sligo Rovers game

There were reports of crowd disturbances outside the Showgrounds following Saturday’s night’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game with Dundalk.

The match ended in a scoreless draw.

It’s understood that a confrontation developed between small groups of supporters from both clubs outside the ground, as away fans were preparing to board a supporters bus.

A video of the incident was shared on social media.

There were no arrests made at the time.

The incident happened less than 48 hours after a fresh online appeal was made by the club regarding crowd behavior at League of Ireland matches.

The club issued a reminder to what it described as a ‘small minority of supporters’ regarding the ban on the use of pyrotechnics and general conduct inside match venues.

Rovers have recently installed additionally CCTV cameras ahead of the new season to monitor events inside the ground.

Last week, Rovers confirmed that they had banned one supporter from future Rovers matches following incidents in Dublin during the St Patrick’s Athletic league game.
