4 Sligo councillors heading to New York for St. Patrick’s Day



Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal County Council’s will have representation at the 2022 St Patrick’s Day in New York.

The parade makes a return after having been cancelled over the past two years due to the Covid pandemic

All three Local Authorities in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal will be represented at the 2022 St Patrick’s Day parade in New York

All three local Authorities have confirmed to OceanFM that they will be sending representatives for the March 17th celebration.

In Sligo Cathaoirleach Cllr Paul Taylor, Councillor Gino O’Boyle and Councillor Dara Mulvey will be travelling to New York on the invitation of the County Sligo Social and Benevolent Association.

It’s also been confirmed that the Chairperson of Sligo County Council’s Town Twinning Committee Cllr Rosaleen O Grady will also be making the trip.

Leitrim County Council have confirmed that one elected member of the Local Authority will make the journey following an invitation from the County Leitrim Society of New York. The invitation is part of the society’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

The councillor chosen to represent the Council will be confirmed in the coming days.

Finally Donegal County Council will also have representation at 2022 New York St Patrick’s Day Parade. Council Cathaoirleach Jack Murray, Las Cathaoirleach Cllr Marin McDermott and Director of Economic Development Gary Martin will be representing the local Authority Stateside.

This year’s event will be the first staging of the Parade since 2019 with the 2020 and 2021 cancelled due to covid 19 restrictions.
