Gardaí vow to leave no stone unturned in hunt for Tom Niland attackers

Sligo Garda Superintendent Mandy Gaynor says she can assure local people in the Skreen area of west Sligo that gardai will leave no stone unturned in their investigation into the January 18th attack on a 73-year old bachelor.

Gardai have described the attack on Thomas Niland, who lived alone in a house along the N59 at Doonflin, Skreen as ‘vicious,’ resulting in serious head and upper body injuries.

Mr Niland is now described as in a critical condition and is on life support in Sligo University Hospital.

A small amount of money was taken.

In a further appeal for information during a media briefing in Sligo Garda Station yesterday, Supt. Mandy Gaynor said there are people who know who was involved in what she described as a ‘cowardly’ attack.
