80 jobs go to with closure of B Braun in Collooney

80 jobs are to go with the closure of the B Braun hospicare facility in Collooney in Co. Sligo.

Management of the company announced this afternoon that it plans to close the site over the next 18 months. The facility has been based in Collooney since 1984.

It says it is no longer viable to to continue to operate at the low volume of production available to the facility.

Of the 89 staff in Collooney, 80 are to be made redundant, and consultations in relation to this will begin in the coming weeks. There will be no redundancies this year.

The company has also confirmed that no other B Braun operations in Ireland are affected, and say the decision to shut the Collooney site was not made lightly.

Pat McLoughlin is the Site Director with B Braun Collooney.

Reacting to the news, local Fianna Fail Deputy, Marc MacSharry, says it’s a devastating blow for the area.
