Visiting restrictions at Letterkenny University Hospital



Visiting at Letterkenny University Hospital has been suspended until next Tuesday.

Saolta say the decision has been taken due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the community, and within the Hospital.

Visiting will be allowed on compassionate grounds, or for exceptional circumstances.

There are separate arrangements in place for access to the maternity department for nominated support partners.

Saolta say the limitation on visiting access will remain in place until Tuesday will be kept under review.

 

Meanwhile rules around close contacts are set to be reviewed by public health officials tomorrow.

It follows a request by coalition leaders to look at reducing the current isolation period due to Omicrons impact on vital services.

It comes as a further 21,302 Covid cases where confirmed here yesterday, while 884 people are in hospital and 90 in ICU.

 

Despite the high numbers of covid-19 cases schools across the North West will open tomorrow after the Christmas break.

Teacher unions are already warning of staff shortages and Covid-19 outbreaks.

Yesterday the Minister for Education said the return would be challenging but their was no public health rationale for keeping them closed.

Norma Foley’s comment followed a meeting with officials and education partners.
