Widespread demand for Covid Boosters

Walk-in Covid vaccination clinics continue this Christmas week in Sligo for anyone aged 40 and over who is eligible for a booster vaccine.

There is no appointment needed.

In Sligo, the vaccination centre is at Sligo Racecourse.

It is operating today, Tuesday, from 1pm to 7.30pm, tomorrow Wednesday from 8.30am to 7.30pm, on Thursday from 1pm to 7.30pm, and on Friday from 9am to 12nooon..

The HSE says it is difficult to anticipate how many people will arrive at the same time to a walk-in clinic and updated information on queue times is available from the HSE Twitter feed @HSELive.

The vaccination centres will be closed on 25th and 26th December and will re-open on 27th.

Details of the walk-in clinics next week will be available from hse.ie <http://hse.ie/> later this week.

The vaccination centres are also running scheduled appointment clinics and anyone who receives an invitation by text is asked to come to the appointment if possible or reply to the text message to reschedule.

People who are aged 40 and older who are eligible for a booster dose may get their vaccine by booking an appointment with participating pharmacies, details of which are available on hse.ie http://hse.ie/

Meanwhile a Donegal GP has confirmed that the demand for Covid booster has surpassed Health Officials expectations in relation to the demand for the boosters,

GPs have ordered about 250,000 more Covid boosters than expected, under the new accelerated programme.

The Irish Medical Organisation says they’ve requested up to 700,000 over the past week.

It’s after the HSE asked family doctors to double the amount of boosters they administer every week.

Dr Denis McCauley, from the IMO’s GP committee, says demand has far exceeded expectations.
