Six new posts created for Sligo Active Travel Scheme

It’s hoped at least three engineers, two executive engineers and a senior executive engineer will be hired soon to run the Active Travel Team for Sligo.

Almost €2.6m was announced in March 2021 for a range of walking and cycling projects across the county with a team now being appointed to oversee operations.

This includes projects such as the ITSligo to Hyde Bridge scheme, which is expected to cost in the region of €100,000, various pedestrian crossings, new footpaths in towns and villages and cycle lanes.

Fine Gael Councilor, Thomas Walsh, says he understands at least one position has been offered.

He says the aim of the Active Travel Scheme is to make walking and cycling safe and accessible in Sligo.
