Mona McSharry competes at World Short Course Swimming Championships

Sligo’s Olympic finalist Mona McSharry will swim for Ireland at this week’s World Short Course Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi, which begin on Tuesday.

The Grange woman will compete in four individual events: the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 100m Individual Medley.

It will be her first major international meet since the Tokyo Olympics last Summer when McSharry became the first Irish swimmer to reach an Olympic final in the 100 metres breaststroke. She finished eighth.

She spoke to Oisín Langan about her hopes for the worlds this week  – and about how life has changed for her since that Olympic final appearance last Summer.

The Sligo woman may also compete in relay events in Abu Dhabi, depending on her progress in the individual events.

The Short Course Championships are held in a 25-metre pool – and they are being streamed live on the official FINA YouTube channel.

(Time difference: Abu Dhabi is +4 hours ahead of Ireland)
