Connacht final disappointment for Eastern Harps

There was disappointment for Sligo champions Eastern Harps in Saturday’s Connacht LGFA junior club football final in Ballyhaunis, where they were beaten by St Brendan’s of Galway by a single point, 0-13 to 2-6.

It was cruel luck on the Keash-Gurteen girls who matched their opponents for much of the hour.

Two first-half goals for Harps had them level with St Brendan’s at the interval, 2-2 to 0-8.

The Sligo champions began the second-half strongly and led by two.

But St Brendan’s, to their credit, didn’t panic and and scored three unanswered points to move in front.

Back came Harps and they edged in front again by a point as the game moved into added time.

However, the Galway girls worked two late scores to seal victory by a point and take the provincial title for 2021.
