Three local electoral areas see increase in Covid-19 rate



Three out of the five local electoral areas in the OceanFM region have seen a decrease in the 14 day incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 population.

Over 1,000 cases have been recorded in the region between the 23rd of November and the 6th of December.

As of Monday, the Manorhamilton Local Electoral Area in Co. Leitrim had a 14 day rate of 388, with 42 cases recorded.

The South Donegal area recorded a rate of 940 with 249 cases.

The two local electoral areas to see an increase on the 14 day rate are in Co. Sligo.

The Ballymote Tubbercurry local electoral area recorded the lowest in the county but has still risen slightly to 819 infections per 100,000 population.

Sligo/Drumcliff is the other area inthe county to see an increase now sitting on a figure of 1,369.

While Sligo/Strandhill went down, it’s still recorded the highest figure in the region with a rate of 1,281.

When looking at the 14 day rate for counties as a whole, Leitrim has a rate of 989, Sligo is on 1,071 and Donegal has a rate of 1,076.

Carlow has the highest rate in the country by far being more than double Donegal’s rate at 2,233

When it comes to hospital overcrowding, Letterkenny University Hospital is the most overcrowded for the second day in a row 50 patients waiting for a bed.

There are also 15 Covid-19 patients in the hospital with two in the ICU.

The number of people waiting for a bed in Sligo University Hospital has risen sharply in recent days according the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s Trolley Watch figures.

40 people are waiting in the hospital making it the third most overcrowded across the country today.

10 people are receiving treatment for Covid in Sligo with one in ICU.

In total, 416 patients are waiting for a bed in Irish hospitals today.

While 512 people are being treated for Covid-19 including 115 in ICU
